10 Years Together:
Fundraising for
Explore’s next chapter
In May 2024 Explore celebrated its tenth
anniversary as an independent organisation
with fundraisers at every library in the city.
Libraries organised plant sales, garden fetes
and booksales with enthusiastic support from
volunteers and friends groups. York band Bull
staged a takeover – Live at the Library – at
York Explore, with creative activities throughout
the day culminating in a gig in the evening.
The Summer Fair on Library Lawn raised
money for children’s activities and the Summer
Reading Challenge and featured family-friendly
fun from storytelling and Lego to Morris
dancing.
A specially designed Christmas card was on
sale at Explore Centres to raise funds towards
conserving the Archives.

In Spring 2025 we re-launched our Community
Membership programme. Members pay
£1 for a share in Explore, but many new
members chose to donate significantly more
demonstrating how much people in York value
what we do.
