Community-centric action
This year, York’s communities demonstrated how much culture,
learning and shared spaces matter. We provided welcoming places
where people could read, learn, ask questions, share stories, discover
heritage and take part in culture in ways that were meaningful to them.
Learning, connection and
creativity
Across our libraries, archives, events,
learning programmes and creative
activity, people learned skills, used digital
technology, traced family histories,
joined groups, attended performances
and pursued projects. These moments
help people feel more confident, more
connected and more at home in their city.

Forward focus
We also looked carefully to the future with
resilience and hope. We recognise there will be
challenges, but through robust planning, we can
continue to serve York well through changing
times. This includes developing our staffing
structure and protecting our finances while
fulfilling our responsibilities. Just as importantly,
we increased our understanding of the people
who use our services, the barriers some face
and the impact our work has on them.
Teaming up
Explore: The future
Partnerships helped us reach further. In citywide collaborations, we supported digital
inclusion, learning, health and wellbeing,
fundraising and audience engagement. Through
our National Portfolio Organisation programme,
we developed our equality, diversity, inclusion
and belonging, Community Membership and
relationships with members and supporters.
We enter the year ahead determined to
listen to community voices and work with
partners to shape spaces, programmes
and services that help York learn, connect,
create and thrive. Above all, we will keep
the community experience at the centre of
every choice we make.
