Future-proofing Explore
Explore made a difference in people’s lives by keeping local spaces
welcoming and useful. This year, we protected places where people
learn, read, get online, ask for help, share culture and meet others.
We learned that stability matters because
it keeps these opportunities within reach.
External funding helped more people access
archive collections, join creative programmes
and build digital confidence. This opened more
doors into York’s shared cultural life.
Greener roots, greener footprints
Making a difference
We know our community views Explore as more
than a service; consistent feedback reinforces
the personal and social value of our work.
People found places where they could belong,
learn and join in. Communities in York grew in
confidence, built new connections and played
a more active role in the city’s cultural life.
This year showed Explore’s value as a key civic
organisation because it helps people leave with
something worthwhile, like a skill, a connection,
a memory or a new opportunity.
Explore also changed how it delivers services
so public spaces care for the environment as
well as people. By cutting carbon emissions,
increasing recycling, using less plastic and
saving water, Explore demonstrated that good
environmental practices come from simple,
everyday choices.
Together, we can do more
Whether you give your time, your voice
or your support, you are helping to
create opportunities for people to learn,
connect and thrive. Every contribution
helps ensure that Explore can continue
inspiring readers, preserving York’s stories
and strengthening communities for
generations to come.
